Dear Diary,
We're on the run! I don't know how best to explain it, except that my best friend and I are on an adventure with my Uncle Mike to basically find a device that will help me time travel and actually correct the past and possibly save my dad from getting shot on his wedding day to my mom. It's really crazy. Layla and I are not sure what to think. I know this might be all too much to dream about, but I trust my uncle. Plus one of those kids in Hawkins that I helped back when I time traveled as a kid, well she's old now and is trying to stop us. Layla actually seems off about that, I think it's because she might be worried that her mom is wondering where we are. And we're like, on the run and stuff. Anyway, I gotta run, I think we're pausing to rest for a bit before our next stop.
-Yvie
Yvie: It'll be dark soon, do you want to sleep a little first? I can stay up.
Layla: I don't think I'll be able to sleep out here. And I know we've slept outside before, especially when we'd be at summer camp learning to ride horses with Ms. Rutledge. But I dunno, I won't be able to sleep.
Yvie: Want to talk about it?
Layla: Meh. Maybe? I don't know. (blurts out quickly) I think my mom is dead.
Yvie: (caught off guard) What makes you say that?
Layla: Well, your uncle acts a little weird whenever I try to talk about her, or like when he caught us on our phones and then threw them away when he saw I was trying to call my mom after you saw the Ring Cam alerts on your phone of Agent Eleven showing up to the house while we were at the prison...
Yvie: He threw our phones away because I think he just wanted to make sure we couldn't be traced by Agent Eleven.
Layla: I mean yeah, but like, should we really trust him? He didn't tell us that the agent had been at our home. If something happened to my mom, he'd tell me right?
Yvie: I'm sure he would. I trust my Uncle Mike with all I've got. He really stepped up when I lost my dad.
Layla: Yeah, I know he's been a big part of your family. Ok, I just have to ask. What's up with his hair? Is that even his hair? What's goin on with his whole muscle man thing. Can I ask that?
Yvie: Yeah, it's a choice for sure. But, when you know the story, it makes sense. He-Man, who was like the most powerful man in the universe was one of his favorite heroes. Anyway, when we were younger, this old blue wizard guy named Skeletor, though my uncle was fond of calling him Smelletor, he had been in space trying to find the love of his life, and he eventually gave up looking for her and came back to Earth. He was frail and dying from space radiation or something. Anyway, he fused his life force with the corpse of Shredder who was a big baddie of my uncle and his brothers. Not like a baddie that slays the house down, but like a baddie that slays slays. With knives. And a sword.
Layla: I kinda remember this, our moms moved us out of the city for a while.
Yvie: Yep. This Skele-Shredder wanted to start an all out war and that's when Uncle Mike lost his brothers. That He-Man guy ended up sacrificing his own life to kill Skele-Shredder. It was not good.
Yvie: So really ever since, Uncle Mike has just sort of looked like that. He couldn't save his brothers or his hero, so he has tried his best to become his own hero.
Layla: Got it. I mean it's a nice lace front. But going through all that, do you really think we are safe with him? From what he said, Agent Eleven, she seems like big trouble.
Yvie: I can't think of a safer place to be than with my uncle right now. He won't let Eleven get to us.
Layla: Yeah. But Yvie, what if my fear is true.
Yvie: If it's true, well, I don't know. Maybe I do know. If something happened to your mom, I mean if I can go back in time and fix things, well, maybe all of this other stuff will be different.
Layla: But what if it isn't? Yvie. For me time travel was a concept that showed up in movies or sci-fi books. I'm now finding out that you have actually done it before, and I might add, that you have no real way of controlling how it all works. I wish we could get in touch with your mom, maybe she'd have information about how this all works?
Yvie: I don't wish that at all. My mom is the last person that needs to be involved in this.
Layla: Yvie, your mom is not that bad.
Yvie: Layla. My mom has been gone for years now. What has it been, like maybe a year since I have heard from her, and that was from some stupid text message. She has done nothing but let her grief consume her, like, I feel like I don't even have a mom. I've had my own grief too, she wasn't the only one.
Layla: I know, but Yvie. That's your mom.
Yvie: She's one of my moms. And from what I understand, her role in how I was conceived was sus.
Layla: Ok, do I even want to know?
Yvie: It's complicated.
Layla: Yeah, I'm getting that. This is all really complicated. But I know your mom loves you.
Yvie: She's got a really funny way of showing that.
Uncle Mike: Might be funny, true, but your mom kiddo... your mom... all of her actions have been for you, even if you can't see that.
Yvie: Holy cow, when did you wake up? Were we too loud?
Uncle Mike: Eh, I heard the whole thing.
Layla: I thought you were sleeping?
Uncle Mike: Multitasking dudette. Should we be off? Shouldn't really stay still in one spot.
Yvie: Yeah, let's go.
Uncle Mike: Layla, did Yvie tell you that her mom and I used to date?
Layla: What?! Umm, no. What kind of soap opera is this.
Uncle Mike: Long time ago. Before you dudettes were born. And that gnarly bone brain earned the name Smelletor, that skull face was rank dude.
Yvie: (rolls eyes) Grody.
A skip, hop, and a jump later...
Yvie: Wow, what is this place?
Layla: Is this what it is like to be inside an iceberg?
Uncle Mike: Yo, there you are dude. Yvie, Layla, let me introduce you to Mr. Freeze.
Yvie: Hey, I've heard that name. You caused problems for my dad. Like, a bunch of times.
Mr. Freeze: A time or two yes. Many moons ago. I knew your father quite differently from other parts of society. I only knew of him as the Batman, until he died and I soon learned who the man was beneath the mask. And the family he left behind. Upon learning more about Bruce Wayne, well, it put a lot of things in perspective. My condolences young lady. I know what it is to lose someone very important to you.
Mr. Freeze: Of course, since you are all here I take that to mean that plans are a go, yes Michelangelo?
Uncle Mike: Right on. You've got the device?
Mr. Freeze: I did, but I moved it to a new location. A lovely if not strange woman was poking around, trying to ask about my life's work. I thought it best to act swiftly.
Uncle Mike: Agent Eleven?
Mr. Freeze: Why yes. Strange with a hint of sinister nature, though her bald head is quite impressive. It almost doesn't look real. Like she could be a figment of all our imaginations.
Yvie: Yeah, pretty sure she is real. And what device? The one that will help me to time travel?
Mr. Freeze: Yes. More or less. I lost the love of my life, and for many years I had preserved her body, waiting for the right time to bring her back. Only I was not able to do so, so I found the technology to build what I like to call a Time Seed, my only problem was that I had no way of really making it work. Until I learned about you, and your abilities. I do believe you can pilot the Time Seed, and theoretically course correct the event involving the murder of your father. There are potential drawbacks though.
Yvie: Like what?
Mr. Freeze: Forget what you know about time travel from the movies or those super hero stories you probably grew up on. There's no real way of knowing what will happen, but we know this much. The Time Seed can only be used once. And there are possible theories as to where you might end up. You could be stuck in the past. You could create a different timeline that you live in. You might come back to this version of reality with nothing
or everything changed. You could even wipe out reality, though that one is probably not likely to happen. There is always the possibility though! I would imagine most likely that you might not come back to this world, as you know it.
Yvie: Oh. This is a pretty big decision.
Mr. Freeze: Yes.
Layla: So wait a minute, all I'm hearing is that my friend is going to leave and might not come back? Umm, Yvie, is this what you want to do?
Yvie: I think so. I mean I don't know. Yesterday I was visiting the Baroness thinking I'd get some kind of information about my dad and now I am faced with the possibility that I could go back and prevent my dad from dying. Layla, I think about that day, it is burned in my mind watching my dad get shot in front of me. I don't want to live with this trauma, and this loss.
Layla: But Yvie... You'd be gone. Maybe.
Yvie: Exactly. You heard Mr. Freeze. We don't really know what could happen, but this sounds like the only chance I have to change history. My time travel ability is not something I can control, when it has happened, it is random at best. I feel like I have to take this chance.
Layla: Yvie, I don't know what to say. This is happening so fast, don't you want to just take a moment...
Mr. Freeze: There isn't time for a moment. If Yvie doesn't use the Time Seed, there will be others who will try and manage this device along with Yvie, and it won't be for noble reasons. Speaking of, they're here.
Mr. Freeze: Silent alarms have been tripped, the Agent will be down here soon. Michelangelo, you must take them to the Time Seed now.
Uncle Mike: Aren't you coming with us?
Mr. Freeze: No. I think my time will be best sent causing a distraction. You'll know how to use it, there will be help.
Yvie: But Mr. Freeze. I don't even know what to say. You could've made me use this Time Seed thing to bring back the person you lost. Why help me?
Mr. Freeze: Because I saw the aftermath on the news. I read the articles on what you went through. I may miss my Nora, but if you have the chance to change that day, I want to do my part in helping. Your father was a great adversary, the least I can do is help. There's a shift in this world, has been for the past ten years. What happened that day was not meant to be. I believe you have the power to change that.
Uncle Mike: Ok dudettes, we gotta go. Off to the races again.
Yvie: Thank you.
Moments later...
Cut Man: They were here, but their trail literally runs quite cold. We've reached a dead end.
Agent Eleven: Impossible. I refuse to believe that an overgrown talking turtle and two young adults are able to out maneuver me.
Cut Man: It would appear to be the case.
Agent Eleven: Wait, we are not alone.
Cut Man: Ah, the lord of the manor.
Mr. Freeze: You would do well to remember where you stand. You are in my domain.
Agent Eleven: Now, now. Tell me old man, where are they? Hiding in the ice? Where's the Time Seed?
Mr. Freeze: Oh, you must not have read my file. I won't be answering your questions. You won't be able to stop the girl. She's on a path towards a destiny already forged in the stars. Sorry to ice out your plans.
Agent Eleven: My plans? Ha. What do you think? That I want her to use the Time Seed for my own purposes. No, oh no. I'm trying to prevent a true perversion. Bending reality, even for something as lovely as saving her father, goes against the laws of the natural world. There will be consequences if she succeeds, don't you understand this? I'm trying to prevent a nightmare from unfolding.
Mr. Freeze: The only nightmare is you, and what you've done behind the scenes. I know all about you.
Agent Eleven: Well, then you should know I always bring proper reinforcements. Join us...
Agent Eleven: ...Fire Man.
Fire Man: Awaiting command.
Agent Eleven: Burn it all to the ground.
Agent Eleven: You know what they say...
Agent Eleven: Mr. Freeze, time heals all wounds...
Agent Eleven: But there's alway more, new ones that burn through flesh...
Mr. Freeze: (closes his eyes) How I've longed to see your face again my love...
Some time later, on the grounds of Castle Bright Moon..
The Time Seed is still...
Yvie: This is it? This will help me to go back there, to my parent's wedding...
Yvie: I didn't think it'd be so sparkly.
Layla: Yvie, I know I have been skeptical about this, I just don't know that I'm ready for you to go and maybe never come back.
Yvie: I know. Is it weird if I feel like I am unsure what I am doing? How would this even work? How do I say goodbye?
Uncle Mike: This has been a rush of events, I admit. And I'll tell ya kiddo, I have no idea how this works. I was just just supposed to make sure you got here safely.
Layla: So, the rest is just up to Yvie now? Not even an instruction manual?
???: You won't need a manual.
Yvie: Oh wow. This can't be...
Maleficent: Your fairy godmother will be of assistance. Of course.
Layla: Holy toledo.
Yvie: Mal? I haven't seen you in so long!
Maleficent: Indeed. It has been a long time, though I am not alone dearie.
Maleficent: Your mother has been with me.
Miss M: Hey sweetheart.
Yvie: Mom?! What are you doing here?
Miss M: I know I've been gone for too long, but I can explain. It was all for you. I'm sorry I was not there these past few years, but we've got the last detail, the last piece to make sure you create a new destiny and rewrite the past. It's time, to heal all your wounds...
