Dear Diary,
Looks like I'm following in my mom's footsteps. It's been ten years since I lost my dad on my parent's wedding day. I have been haunted by that day ever since. They eventually caught my dad's murderer, a member of the terrorist organization called Cobra. Some raven haired loon going by the Baroness. She has been sending me letters over the years, and out of curiosity I finally read one. I've been a little intrigued to say the least. She has information that could change my understanding of the past on top of revealing a supposed real killer. So, against my better judgement, my best friend Layla and I are headed to visit her in prison. I'm not sure this is a good idea, but... what if there is truth to this?
-Yvie
Yvie: As sure as I can be. I mean. At worst we talk to the woman that killed my dad and I tell her a piece of my mind and we go home.
Layla: True. I'll tell her a piece of my mind too, why not?
Layla: Yeah. This is one of those fancy prisons. If my mom finds out we are here, we are deader than dead. But whatever, we're adults. We can vote and stuff.
Yvie: I mean, yes we can, but your mom would still kill us. Unlike my mom, who I haven't heard from in a minute.
Baroness: Are you two going to just chit chat all day or are you going to address me and why I sent for you?
Layla: Oh dang. She sent for us. I know what that means. I grew up watching old episodes of Dynasty with my mom.
Yvie: Umm, are you on the other side? We didn't see you.
Layla: Might be for the best.
Baroness: Enough of this. You don't need to see me to know my message and its intention. We don't have much time. As you know, I am to be executed soon. For a crime I did not commit.
Yvie: I know I just started college, and I'm not going to law school, but I think there was enough evidence to prove otherwise.
Baroness: Circumstantial. I had every intention of shooting your mother that day, I will admit. But my gun jammed, like I have mentioned over and over. Someone had tampered with it. The same someone that actually shot your father. I was working with an assassin, and I believe they double crossed me. Regardless, I did not kill your father.
Layla: (whispers) Is this even worth getting into Yvie?
Layla: (whispers) She's got good ears.
Baroness: Le sigh. It doesn't matter about who I was working with, he has long been gone from this Earth. There's more to this. I've done my research on you Yvie. I know you can time travel. When you were little, you time traveled to the '80s and helped a group of kids navigating some topsy turvy version of our world, yes?
Layla: Hold up. What? Ok Yvie, not cool keeping this from me all these years. Like, what kind of super mutant shenanigans have you been up to?
Yvie: It was a long time ago... (Editor's Note- check out All My Stranger Toys Parts 1-3 from the June and July 2019 tab to your right)
Baroness: Yes, a long time ago, but still something you are capable of. There's a former rival of your father's, rumor has it, there is a device in his possession that could hone your skills...
Yvie: And?
Baroness: And! Follow the dots little girl. If there is a way you can go back in time, you can find a way to prove who really shot your dad.
Yvie: Thereby paving the way for you to be a free woman? Given all of your misdeeds, I think you are exactly where you need to be. I've done my own research Baroness.
Baroness: Listen to me you little twerps, I admit I might not be the most saintly of individuals, but I will not be executed for a crime I did not commit. I am begging you to be smart about this.
Yvie: Let's say you didn't shoot my dad. You had every intention of killing my mom though. Seriously? My mom and I might be estranged right now, but I don't think I can try to save anyone that wanted to harm her. Like be so for real right now. You want me to dabble with time travel to save you from execution?
Baroness: Yes. I do. And it's not like you won't get anything out of this. You'll also learn the true identity of who killed your father. You'll be able to possibly heal and work through your trauma.
Layla: But you know who that is, this assassin you mentioned. You could just tell us.
Baroness: Would you believe me though? Traveling through time, catching the person in the act, you'd be able to deliver the proof needed...
Layla: Yvie, come on. This is ridiculous.
Yvie: Who? Tell me the name of the assassin you worked with. After all, if I were to do this, I'd need to know who I am looking for. Right?
Outside the prison..
Yvie: Thanks for getting me out of there. I couldn't hear one more word of what she was saying.Layla: Did you believe her?
Yvie: I dunno. I mean is it possible that some assassin from my father's past was working with her and was the one who shot my dad, maybe? But eh. The Baroness is exactly where she deserves to be. I'm not going to risk what comes with time travel to prove her innocence. She can rot.
Yvie: I think so. I don't really know what I was expecting coming here. She was dangling hope that I could save my dad, but it's not like any of this could bring my dad back. I think I just really miss him.
???: Of course you miss him. Hello Yvie.
???: Our paths have crossed, a long time ago. When you were a child. I'm Agent Eleven. I work with a top secret agency of the government. You can call me El.
Yvie: Wait a minute, when I was a kid? I met you when I time traveled, I helped your friends.
Agent Eleven: Yes. You did. I have held onto that experience and was always paying attention for when you would eventually be born. I've been keeping tabs on you over the years, I am truly sorry about your loss.
Yvie: Umm, thank you. But. Why were you keeping track of me?
Agent Eleven: Well, I knew at some point the experience I had with you back in the '80s, would eventually connect to the present point in time when you initially made that jump back in 2019. It's a rare thing to be able to do that. If put into the wrong hands, you could really disrupt reality as we know it. What did the Baroness tell you? What sort of promises did she try to lull you with?
Yvie: Not much really. She has been trying to get my attention for years now, wanting me to help prove her innocence. Really desperate stuff.
Agent Eleven: And what of time travel? Did she talk to you about that?
Layla: Do we maybe need a lawyer or something to talk with you right now?
Yvie: Layla.
Agent Eleven: (laughs) Someone has been watching old episodes of Law and Order the Reboot eh? I assure you, neither of you are in any legal trouble. I just want to get a picture of what the Baroness has been sharing with you. My department has been keeping tabs on her too, we've been wanting to make sure she doesn't harass you, it would appear she has been steady in those actions. It's probably for the best that you don't believe a word she says.
Yvie: Yeah, she discussed time travel, wanted me to help prove she was framed so she could be free, and that it'd somehow save my dad.
Agent Eleven: But you do know, there is no saving your dad. My condolences, especially given what today means.
Yvie: Yes, I know Agent Eleven. I don't put much faith into what a lunatic behind bars has to say.
Agent Eleven: Smart. Really smart. And please, call me El. Well Yvie, I don't want to keep you. It was nice to see you, very different from when our paths first crossed. Perhaps we'll see each other again one day.
Yvie: Yeah.
Agent Eleven: Oh, by any chance, have you heard from your mother at all? I remember her being fiercely protective of you back when we were in Hawkins.
Yvie: Nah. I haven't. She was never quite the same after losing my dad. She's probably knee deep in a box of comics at a comic store or something.
Agent Eleven: I see. Well, take care. Here's my card, don't hesitate to use it if the Baroness continues to bother you.
Layla: (whispers) But hopefully not.
Yvie: Come on Layla!
Agent Eleven: I don't think she knows everything or what she is capable of, but I do believe the Baroness may have planted a seed. What do you think?
Agent Eleven: Or fear. I did come across as a little creepy. But I don't have time for pleasantries. Not with what is at stake.
Cut Man: Plan?
Agent Eleven: They won't be able to go far once they get home. For now, let's have a chat with the Baroness. I do believe her execution might be arriving sooner than expected...
Wayne Manor...
Layla: Ok, so the bald woman was beyond strange, right?Yvie: Yeah. She seemed a little different from when we first met.
Layla: Yeah, because that was back in the late 1900s. When you time traveled. Anything else you need to tell me about your friggin super powers?
Yvie: I don't think so. I mean. Possibly, but that was all so long ago. We need to focus on the present, and what our story is gonna be when your mom finds out we left.
Layla: Ah!
Yvie: Uncle Mike? What are you doing here?
Uncle Mike: Didn't mean to scare ya kiddo, but remember when your mom said I'd be lookin' out for you and all that tubular stuff? Well. The time has come more mega ultra lookin' out for ya. We gotta go.
Layla: Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're already in trouble for lying to my mom about where we were.
Uncle Mike: Uhh, listen, we can deal with your mom later Layla. Glo and I go way back, and uh, we need to go. Now.
Yvie: Ok. This is weird. Uncle Mike, where are we going? Do we need to pack anything? We can go inside for a sec...
Uncle Mike: No! You can't go inside. Listen we don't have much time. I know you two rascals went to the prison. That gnarly Baroness chick is bad news, but there is someone even worse than her. Creepy bald lady with stranger things than anything you can imagine. And she's after you kiddo.
Yvie: We just saw her, she seemed ok.
Layla: Girl, she was super weird.
Yvie: Yeah, ok, there was something off about her, but she works for the government. I think she was looking out for me.
Uncle Mike: Ahh man, that's not good. She's already been here. And she'll be back. So we gotta skedaddle, like, now.
Yvie: I don't know. I don't like what is going on, this is all really weird, but I think we need to go. I trust my uncle.
Layla: Ok, well maybe I can stay here? Oh who am I kidding, I'm not leaving you alone to deal with whatever this is. So, Mr. Mike, what is this? We deserve to know what is going on. Because something is obviously going on.
Uncle Mike: Right on dudette, right on. So, here's the rad short n skinny. We know you've got powers Yvie. Baroness no doubt told you about the possibility to time travel with the help of a machine.
Yvie: Yeah, to help clear her name.
Uncle Mike: Sure sure. But it's more than that. There's someone I need to take you to, someone who can help you get to the past. Not to help the Baroness, but to actually help you Yvie. All of this time travel talk, you could actually go back and save your dad. You could prevent him from dying that day. Kiddo, you have more power within you than you know, and there are people out there that want to prevent that from happening. Which is why we need to go. Broken record here, but like now. We go. Now. If the bald eagle swoops back in, we're totally toast.
Yvie: My head is spinning. Uncle Mike, is it true? I could bring my dad back?
Uncle Mike: Kiddo, I wouldn't lie to you. Now, we goin or what?
Layla: Come on Yvie, let's go.
Yvie: Ok. Get us outta here Uncle Mike...
To be continued!
