Being Thankful

It has been awhile since I posted a topic from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers, and I just about missed this most recent topic. I'm cutting it close to the line, but it's better late than never so let's discuss the topic,

Gee, Thanks!
Next week, we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for this year?

Thanksgiving is upon us, and though I had originally planned on doing this topic justice with a splashy tell all on toy Miss M's Thanksgiving with the Ninja Turtles and April O'Neil, I have decided to just be honest with this topic and share what I am thankful for.

I'm obviously thankful that I have my family and friends in my life and all the other things in this world that allow me to keep going. I mean, those things seem self evident, but I really don't know what I'd do without wonderful people in my life. For those that have been tuning in, I have been struggling a bit as of late. This last half of 2013 has been beyond a mess and from the looks of it everything is only getting crazier.

So while I face 2014 with a whole new adventure on my own solo journey, I do find myself beyond thankful for the people in my life. Not just my family and friends, but also the new people I've met at my job. I have gotten to know some wonderful co-workers that bring smiles and laughter into my life.

I'm also thankful for the people I have met online. I so love having this blog as well as all the other various avenues online that allow me to share and comment on so many ideas with wonderful people. It's a nice thing and certainly something that keeps me sane. So I thank each and every one of you. This is going to be a rough holiday season for me, but I'm going to do what I always do: raise a small plastic sword aloft and say, "For the honor of Grayskull, I am She-Ra!!!" (She-Ra makes everything better. No really, she does.)

In other more less serious tones, I'm also thankful that I am a dorky person. I have been in love with toys since I was knee high to Kowl's eye, and though some may find it odd that a grown woman spends most of her time daydreaming about how she can display her She-Ra collection, it is truly something that brings me joy. And I'm thankful for that. Life is way too short to sit around and avoid the things that make you happy.

On a side note, I wanted to do a little follow up. Kal from the Cave of Cool recently asked if I would be sharing any photos of my awesome skills at making up my face for work. As I have mentioned, I work in a cosmetics and fragrance department at a store, and part of my job is the unspoken notion that I arrive at work with my face looking semi decent. I have been perfecting my work face and I am really quite proud of what I have been able to do. So here is a photo of my work face! (Yay...)

I feel so silly posting this, because first of all I am rotten at taking photos of myself. (I refuse to use the word selfie. That word just sounds vulgar.) The other reason I feel silly posting this picture is because you can't really tell how great my makeup skills look.

So if you squint in the right light, you can see that I have my lids rimmed in a nice brown eye liner with a subtle cat eye effect. A slight streak of sparkly mint eye shadow rests in the corners of my eyes to make them pop. I also added some lighter shades over my brow bone to soften everything up and not make me look like I came from out of the ground. There's a hint of blush on the cheeks and I just realized that I snapped this photo before adding any color to my lips. I'm usually not a fan of having bare lips, as I have a big bottom lip and a tiny upper lip, so lipstick with a bit of liner is truly my best friend. So yeah, this is just one of the many make up looks I have been working with for work. I will try to capture and share more of my tips! It's not always toy talk around here.

Well, that's about it for the topic at hand. I hope everyone is having a nice week. For more looks at what other members of the League have to be thankful about, read below!

Stick around though! The rest of November is going to be pretty exciting. Everything is leading up to a very big end of the year story that will have you wondering, "Just what in the hell is she doing this time?" At least that is what I hope you will be thinking. I mean, I'm not Jean Grey or anything, so I can't read your mind, but I can certainly hope. Take care everyone!
