Dear Diary,

"I'm so behind."

That is my statement for 2013. Or maybe my statement for 2013 should be, "My life keeps falling apart week by week, but damn it, I'm doin what I do, and what I do is cute." What do I know? I know that I want to scream at the top of my lungs. I can't share why that is on here, I just can't, but I really need She-Ra. Or the power of Grayskull. Or something. Maybe a margarita? I don't drink so that is pointless. Damn it.

So last Friday I submitted my short-short story for the writing contest. I had my brother and mom help me spruce it up, I needed an extra pair of eyes. I think my finished product was fun. It was a little thing I wrote years ago, but I updated it and now I hope it at least makes somewhat of a decent rank. I am not sure if I can post what I sent in yet or not as per the rules, but once I know anything I will post it on here for you all to read. (For those interested.)

Let's see. What else? I've got so much going on right now. I have so many stories and things that I am writing that I just want to share it with you all. I want to just give it all away, but I can't. No one will want to continue reading, right?

I've been enjoying my time with writing official content for Retro-Daze.org. I love the forum that is a part of the site. It is fun and everyone seems to be very nice. You should all go visit it! Hopefully I can also get a special review up on Broadway Jem for NERDSociety. That exclusive doll looks amazing.

I also was contacted by someone that I sold a short story to over the summer, and they are going to be contacting me for more work! (If I understood the email correctly.) I have so many coals in the fire that I hope I'll be staying warm this winter. But then I remember I live in an area that maybe has half a day of winter a year, so I'll be fine. If anything, I'll smell and look good from all the cosmetics and fragrances I keep selling. (On a total side note, I have really perfected making up my face. I don't usually wear a lot of make up, but working in a department store I have to look like I know what I'm selling, so I've got Bette Davis eyes all day long!)

I also have my fingers crossed for another project I am hoping to join in on. This publishing company is trying to put together a collection of humorous stories regarding how each state in the U.S. would handle an apocalypse. My goodness I feel like that is pure fun! In the words of Marina and the Diamonds, "I'm obsessed with the mess that is America."

Anyways, I just wanted to check in and see how you are all doing. I've got some fun stuff I will be posting this week, it won't be all my personal ramblings. Hope you are all doing well and having a great week! Take care everybody.

  2. No no no. Its not that "you're behind" its that you're currently "catching up".
I've been reading a number of articles about productivity lately, and they say to focus on a positive aspect of your project that'll help carry you through on a subconscious level. Your mileage may very on how successful that is though.

Congrats on selling the short story! I know that sense of satisfaction you get when you're paid for your hard earned creative work.

Never really understood the whole "Bette Davis Eyes" line. Maybe thats because the first thing I saw her in was "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?". This caused quite a bit of mental whiplash when I saw her at her prime in "Now Voyager" years later.

I'm also interested in learned how each state would handle the apocalypse, particularly my home state of Michigan. Perhaps the Great Lakes and Robocop can aid us after the end even if they can't solve our bankrupt cities and mass unemployment.

    1. I like this whole, "catching up" instead of being behind! That is could! It's all in the narrative and how you phrase it. It's crazy, because as a therapist I know the importance of language and how positive words can influence things as much as negative ones, but for some reason I slip up. lol I wonder why I do that. Thank you for bringing this up.

And thanks for the congrats. I was so shocked that they bought it, but it was a really nice feeling.

So I never really thought about it, but yeah, if your first impression of Bette Davis is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, lol than the Bette Davis eyes quote might not be as nice sounding. lol

Of course you had to go and mention Now Voyager. I love that movie so much. I have a kindred feeling to her because we share the same birthday, so I have always liked her. I am weird like that. But yeah, Now Voyager is such a good movie.

I also think that Robocop and the Great Lakes would make for a pretty interesting tale of surviving the apocalypse. lol I hope you have been doing well!

    2. It's all about propaganda I tell you. A real war of the words!

Ah, Now Voyager. The local library will screen some classic movies every once in a while. Its not a quite the five star presentation like the Ohio Theater had, but its gets me my retro fix plus and opportunity to get out the house. Though I do stick out among the regular attendees who come in from the Senior Center.

    3. Yeah. I sometimes feel like I stick out too when I geek out about older movies. I really wish there was a theater or something near where I lived that would play movies like Now Voyager. I need to see about that, I live near a big city. So it only makes sense that there would be something. lol

  3. You are one busy girl Miss M. That being the case, it makes me all the more appreciative of your contributions at RetroDaze. They are so much fun to read, and really keep things fresh and interesting.

I hope your submission to the short story contest works out for you. I'm looking forward to being able to read that when it will not interfere with contest rules.

    Keep rolling Miss M!

  4. I love to hear how you are doing, Miss M :) I have been mostly silent over on my end, just busy and introspective.
I can't believe you are getting so many leads on paid writing gigs, how awesome! I love to see people gettin paid to act within their passions. I hope you get picked up for that apocalypse "what-if" book. Your contribution is bound to be hilarious with just the right womanly touch ;)
I hope we see some more chilly weather, I already have 4 Christmas trees up and it's steadily feeling more and more like Spring. Totally throwin me off!
    Later, Miss M. :)

    1. Well I love catching up with you too Laura! I hope all is well.

It is nice to be paid for the things I write. I think what I enjoy the most though is knowing that I can help bring a smile or entertaining moment to someone's life. I just want to help people feel good or whatever.

I also think this apocalypse what-if book would benefit from a womanly touch!

I am also with you on the chilly weather. It is November and we have yet to really get into a decent amount of chilly weather. I am ready for it, and I love that you have 4 Christmas trees up already! I bet it looks fantastic. Talk to you later!

    1. Thank you Kal! And I keep meaning to take a picture on the days when my make up looks really good. Last week I had the perfect look and all I could do was think, "I really worked this out nicely, and it never looks this good. I need a picture for proof." But I did nothing. lol I will at some point though!

  7. Have you seen the Power Con motu classics video!?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bi9QNpuMjk
Modulok looks magnificent!! Scorpia and Glimmer and Shadow Weaver are all there- looks like good stuff coming up!

I think writing is a numbers game, so if you've got a lot of coals in the fire that is gonna really help. Unfortunately, all the people who I try to write for love my stuff, but then comes the inevitable: "Pay you!? No we don't pay. Maybe if we get more money in the future we will start paying people."
Then I will ask them a year later and they'll be like, "Nope. Still not paying people."-which really just means they are making money and don't want to give it to the people who provide the actual content. If you wonder why so many writers drink-that is the reason. I don't drink so that I can be a writer, I drink because I AM a writer. We are all poor and arty and thinky and miserable. It's a cause and effect thing. Though it is probably for the best that you are sober. Was that a personal choice on your part or do you just not have the time to be an alcoholic?
Anyway,as for what I'm up to, I am working on some columns in between school stuff, but my main focus is preparing Moosecomics.com and it has been Hell trying to get the sizes for the buttons right. My webmaster speaks computer terms and I speak cartoonist/writer terms, so we have some trouble communicating. We are making progress though!!

    1. I have seen the Power con videos! Everything looks amazing. I am really excited for the items coming up. I know a lot of people were saying that 2014 wasn't gonna be a good year for MOTUC, but it is turning out to be one of my favorites.

I mean I get paid for a few things, but I'm not getting paid for everything, so i know what you mean. It sucks. And I used to drink. lol It has been awhile and since I have some health problems, I have to stay away from the stuff. Which works out better in the long run. I'm really looking forward to you debuting the Moosecomics site! That is really going to be awesome! You better let me know when things are up and running. I am just thrilled by this! I am really happy for you.
