Pickin some Pet Peeves for the League

There's an all new topic from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers this week, and it is about:

Pet Peeves!

You know I have something to say, so click below and enter the rant fest!

Actually, it isn't that much of a rant. First be sure to click here to find out about the topic from last week. The topic was all about the Find, ya know, those cool relics you find at yard sales and stuff. I had wanted to post on the topic, but I just got so swamped. That two part Michelangelo date took me days to complete.

Anyways, if you are just tuning in, the League of Extraordinary Bloggers is a fun group of people that blog on a weekly topic posted by Brian over at Cool and Collected. I have had a blast participating and have really read some fantastic stuff from other bloggers. If you are interested in joining or just want to learn more, head over to Cool and Collected: the League.

Now about this week's topic: the pet peeve. I knew instantly what I wanted to talk about, the only problem is that everything ended up becoming a peeve within a pet peeve. I'll try to make some sense. My biggest pet peeve is when (for whatever reason) toy companies cancel the release of an epic toy line. Now this can mean anything, the toy line could be in just the idea stage, or the prototype stage, or even the, "we've got everything in packages ready to go" stage. And then... nothing. Nada. Kaput. The toy line doesn't even make it to shelves.

There are two examples that I can think of that truly represent this pet peeve of mine. We'll start with Big Trouble in Little China. We all remember the first series of amazing figures made by N2. It was quite possibly the coolest toy line ever. (I also have something fun in the works about that toy line, but I'm mum for now!) Anyways, the first series had some heavy hitters, but it was the doomed second series that was set to be the coolest wave of toys ever!

I can't recall if it was in ToyFare or what, but I remember reading that N2 Toys was going to make a second series, and that Gracie was set to be in the mix. You simply cannot have a Jack Burton figure without a Gracie Law figure. To this day my Big Trouble toys look incomplete, and it is such a pet peeve. I believe the problem was that N2 went bust and so did my dreams of ever seeing that second series.

The other toy line that could have been the coolest toy line ever and became a reality never, was the Fifth Element. From N2 Toys. They almost had it all. Set to be released in the winter of 2002, these Fifth Element toys were going to be everything for me, and I mean everything. Not only was I going to have the chance at owning a Leeloo multipass and a dreamy Korben Dallas, but they were even going to make Diva Plavalaguna and Ruby Rhod into action figure form! I get chills just thinking about how amazing this line could have been. (Diva Plavalaguna!) And then I get pet peeved when I realize it will never be.

Can we just take a moment to talk about the Fifth Element? I was in love with that movie. I remember dying to see it in theaters, but I missed it. And once it was finally able to rent, I just watched it on a loop. I can't even explain it. Everything about it was just freakin cool. Ok I've got a really tacky dorkette confession: once when I was home alone, I totally got some medical tape and tried to recreate Leeloo's bandage confection. It was not a pretty look. I've always been a curvy thing, so it looked like my body was eating the medical tape. Awful. Just awful.

I had wanted to share some images of the doomed Fifth Element line, as ToyFare had released some prototype images, but (and here comes my peeve within a pet peeve) I can't find the back issue! I have kept every ToyFare issue I ever bought, and I have somehow misplaced half of them. I fear I may never see them again. This is the problem with being a borderline hoarder. (I refuse to say complete hoarder. I simply refuse.) Anyways, in case you are wanting to see some images of the would-be Fifth Element toys, head over to Leeloo's The Fifth Element Repository for some fun factoids and images of Fifth Element stuff. If I am able to find my ToyFare magazine I will take some pictures and post the prototype images here. Though let's not hold our breaths, ok? If you all could see the mess the Archival Room is in right now, you'd all personally be dialing Hoarders to come out and film the spectacle. That's my pet peeve. I wish I had some images for you all, but I hope the words will do.

Do check out what other members are pet peeved about:

-Brian is peeved about some antics that crazy old TV pulls on us. That darn TV.
-Matt K talks pet peeves and collecting.
-Paxton breaks it all down and then some with his pet peeves. So true on all of them.
-Where are all the enemies? George talks it out.
-Cody breaks down the three worst things that toy collectors come across in their adventures.
-Chris takes his pet peeve to Marvel and DC.
-Not to spoil anything, but Rich gets peeved by them.
-Mason has a whole list of pet peeves. No really. Like a list for the ages. It's amazing.
-Nerd Out With Me! checks out the pet peeves associated with some video games.
-Speaking of video games, Pop Rewind takes issue with... crap, I can't remember. I just can't make heads or Tails of it...

So that's about it! Hurry up now, there's plenty of reading to catch up on! Hope you are all doing well.

  1. There's a Big Trouble in Little China toy line!? That's one of my favorite movies, I had no idea they had toys!

I'm still irked, to this day, that the Bucky O' Hare toy line was discontinued and now I'll never own the absolutely beautiful Jenny figure. Why wasn't she included in the first wave!? WHY!? One more pet peeve to add to the long list. LOL!

    1. There was! The Big Trouble in Little China toys came out in like 2001 or so by N2 toys. It was a very cool toy line.

I really liked the Bucy O'Hare line and I would have loved that Jenny figure! That would have been an amazing figure. Thanks for the comment, and I really enjoyed your list. I am behind on all my comments, but I really enjoyed it.

  2. couldn't agree more with you miss m. for when lines get cancled they wind up making it so collectors have an incomplete line . or certain much demanded characters now never see the light of day. like with the original comic book watchman figures way back in the dc direct days.

    1. Yeah demoncat, there is nothing worse than a toy line or character not making it. I hope all is well with you! I would imagine that DC Direct would have made some really cool original Watchman figures from the comic.

  3. You picked two of my all time favorite movies. How could Kurt Russel be Jack Burton, Snake Plisken and that kid from those great 60s Disney movies where he gets really smart at some college. I am surprised that McFarlane never make Big Trouble Figures. I have their Snake figure and this line of characters just seems right up their alley.

Then there is a the Fifth Element. I love me some Luc Beson. He did those great District 13 movies with all the parkour. If you want to watch a seriously cool action movie those are the ones. Then there is Leelo. I want my MULTIPASS figure NOW...and Ruby and Corbin Dallas. Hell I have to watch that again right now.

    1. I know Kal! McFarlane should have totally made some Big Trouble toys. I feel like that could have worked. I just can't get enough of those movies either. The thing that hurts the most is of course the Fifth Element. I mean, those would have just been perfect.

  4. There were Big Trouble in Little China toys? How did I miss this? Were they McFarlane toys? I didn't have a Jack Burton toy, so I didn't have a toy of Kurt Russell acting like John Wayne. BUT, I had the McFarlane Snake Plissken toy!So I did have a toy of Kurt Russell acting like Clint Eastwood! Snake has always been my fave Russell character anyway. (I like him even more than Captain Ron!) But my Snake's arm fell of in his coat, and the coat sort of ripped. Damn that Todd McFarlane! His toys really aren't meant to be opened are they?

    1. There were! They came out in 2001? Or so? I don't recall the actual date, they were made by N2 toys, the company that made the kinda iffy Mad Max toys. I never picked up the Snake Plissken figure, but he did look cool. And Captain Ron! That would have made for an amazing figure. I had such a crush on Captain Ron. I don't even know why. lol I hope you can fix Snake's arm though, somehow.

    1. Well John, I won't hold the 5th Element thing against you. lol ; ) But yeah, Big Trouble in Little China is just the best. I love that movie. I hope you are doing well!

  6. Wow! Fifth Element figures, how cool were they--GOING to be... What a shame, but nothing new there. I think if you want to get a line out, then you have to go with the bigger companies and forget about the little guy--hate to say that, but it is true, the quality can be anything which ever company makes them, good, bad; but to actually get them out, then you need someone with the money to do so.

    1. Yeah, it does suck for the little guy. N2 had some toy lines under their belt though. They came up during a time where there seemed to be so many new toy companies competing for such cool items. I wish they had stuck around longer.

  7. Sorry to hear you were swamped last week, I imagine you'd have a number of cool finds. I was similarly busy this week and had to bow out. Though now I thinking I should have written about people who write blog posts without using any pictures. How can I read it when there aren't any pictures?

    1. lol Well I never meant to pet peeve anyone! ; ) lol I hope you are doing well. It felt weird not participating in the topic last week, but it had to be done. I am sure I will more than make up for the lack of pictures in the next post I write. lol Talk to ya later!
