I have talked before in the past about my love for Halloween themed toys. Of course my love goes to vintage Halloween toys, particularly stuff from Avon. I used to love the Halloween themed Avon toys. There were always cute things to collect. But today I'm talking about all new Halloween themed toys. I don't know when this really started, but in the past few years stores like Target, Toysrus, and Wal-Mart have upped their game to provide fans and kids alike with Halloween themed toys of all their favorites. I remember one year Toysrus had a big Polly Pocket gift set with all kinds of Halloween themed outfits! It was amazing.
Anyways, this year there are some really cute things in the Halloween aisle at Target. It used to be just the Halloween Barbie, but there is just so much cuteness now! Let's look at the first item!
Cabbage Patch Kids in mini form! And in Halloween costumes!
First of all, isn't it strange to anyone else that CPK can go either way: Cabbage Patch Kids or California Pizza Kitchen? I can just imagine a conversation going like this:
Some guy: I just ate the tastiest piece of CPK.
Me: Eww, you ate a Cabbage Patch Kid?
Some guy: No, I had some pizza at California Pizza Kitchen.
I mean that kind of conversation could happen. Anyways, this little mini CPK doll is dressed as a witch and all set to celebrate 30 years of Cabbage Patch Kids! I love that even though Cabbage Patch Kids aren't nearly as popular as they once were, they are still able to be purchased in stores. I wonder what it is about certain toy lines, ya know? Cabbage Patch Kids have managed to stick around and yet no one has decided to bring She-Ra back to stores. (Adora at a Big Lots does not count.)
Anyways, this little bundle of joy is really cute! If you can tell, she is wearing a witch hat. There are two others in this series, a fairy CPK and a cat CPK. Their costumes are interchangeable and they are just so much fun. Jakks Pacific is rolling out all the CPK items and I am very interested to see what else they plan on releasing for the 30th Anniversary.
Up next we are going to look at something I never expected to collect, and in the last 2-3 years I have just had a fun time collecting pieces here and there. Now here's the thing about me, I am obsessed with all kinds of things, but when something is cute, I just totally can't help myself. And Lalaloopsy is just too cute. Every major holiday sees Target release a special themed Mini Lalaloopsy and their Halloween Mini Lalaloopsies are beyond cute. Here is this year's release:
Pumpkin Candle Light comes with a spider, pumpkin pie, and lollipop balloons. What I love about this line is that the age range says "From 4 to 104." Since I am closer to the side of 104, I like that a toy line gives a little wink to the various ages of toy fans. I've said this before, but being a grown old person that collects toys is not always easy. I try to be a down ass B, but the reality is that I'm not always brimming with confidence. Sometimes I don't want folks to know I collect toys because when you are a woman of a particular age and you have more toys than you know what to do with, something just seems off to other grown folk. Like, "Oh! She's childless and collects toys. I think we should contact Hoarders." Ya know what I mean?
Here's a closer view of Pumpkin Candle Light. The cool thing about Lalaloopsy is that they are cute, but with just the right mix of creepy. They have buttons for eyes! When has it ever not been creepy to have buttons for eyes? My only complaint for these mini toys is that their legs dangle. I guess the point is to carry off the whole rag doll look, but I do wish that the legs were more stable. The accessories are really fun though.
The back of the card is pretty cool. There are no images of other items, but there is a brief bio and a birth date. Ok, so I just have to know, does anyone else ever hope to see a toy share their birthday? Whenever I see something with a birth date on it I always hope that the item shares my birthday too. It's like, "Wow, it'd be so cool if this character shared my same birthday!" I know that sounds really lame, but I am pretty lame. And I own that. I'm full of smiles and I feel that the Care Bears get heaped with unnecessary hate. I like caring about people. Sure, I can drop it like it's hot, but I'll still ask how your day is. And I also collect Halloween themed Mini Lalaloopsies.
Before I go, check out the Halloween Mini Lalaloopsy from last year. I think you'll want one:
It's a Frankenstein's Monster Lalaloopsy! Scraps Stitched 'n' Sewn is her name, and looking creepy cool is her game! I just love this one and I don't think I talked about it last year. (I know I talked about the witch one from 2011, and you can read about that here. Seriously, check it out. It involves Snake Mountain and a busted weave.)
The detail to her hair is fantastic. I mean how could someone not want this?! Ok, maybe a few of you might be groaning about this, but for all my love of muscle bound dudes in loin cloths, I do love cute things too! (Have I mentioned that before?)
Here's the back. The best thing is that she is sewn from scraps and lightening. Perfection!
Anyways, keep it here! There is plenty of fun Halloween stuff coming up. I've got some news tomorrow about fun Halloween events and the League of Extraordinary Bloggers wants to know what bloggers are wanting right now. You know I'll have something to say about that. Take care everyone!
Those LaLaLoopsy dolls remind me of Coraline! And if you're a hoarder then I'm a SUPER HOARDER. So don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteThey are like Coraline! I always forget about Coraline. But yes, very much so. And if we're all hoarders, than we need to form a justice league or something. lol Hope all is well! : )
DeleteI haven't yet encountered these. Though I did come across some Halloween themed Beanie Babies and FisherPrice Little People Wheelies - http://retro-daze.org/site/thread/458?page=4
ReplyDeleteI know they aren't as popular like they once were, but I still love Beanie Babies. The themed ones are always fun. I also love the Little People Wheelies! So much fun.
DeleteI saw these at Target last weekend. They're definitely cool, although not something that falls into my regular collecting habits. The Lalaloopsy's are kind of creepy, though, like the button eyed people from Coraline.
ReplyDeleteI like the lollipop accessories, though. If these are marked down after Halloween, I might just get them to use the lollipops.
Yeah, they are creepy! I mean they are totally cute, but I like that some girl toy lines have shifted and brought back some of that creepy feel to them.
DeleteAnd I am sure these will be marked down. I tend to get them the day after Halloween at 50% off, but this year I got it sooner. They do come with great accessories.
did not see the witches hat on the cabbage patch doll for to me she looks like some sort of e evil flower creature including her different color eyes. plus those lolly pop things look like some one created a brats polly pocket love child. and you are only ready for hoarders when your collection starts to act like it is like the blob.
ReplyDeleteYa know, the CPK could come across as that! I was unsure what her costume was at first too, because I didn't notice the hat too! And it is so funny that you mentioned brats polly pocket love child, because I believe the company that makes Bratz dolls also makes the Lalaloopsy stuff. And demoncat, from your lips to Adora's ears, I hope my collection doesn't start acting like a blob! I'll be in double trouble. : )
DeleteI like the Scraps one she is cute and being a patchwork monster makes her cool and classic too.
ReplyDeleteI know John! I really like her too! She is one of my favorites.
