I love culture!

Hey everyone! Whew, I have been hitting the ground running in 2014. The only problem is that I have not been able to post as much as I would like on here. That is ok though, I am posting now and I wanted to share some updates on the current state of the dorkette. So click below and check things out!

All right, I have been doing my best to reply to all of your comments and I am working slowly but surely. I read and enjoy all of your comments and emails so much, it always puts a smile on my face when I hear from any of you. So, I don't want anyone to feel like I have forgotten about replying or anything like that. I take pride in that you all take the time to read and comment. It means the world to me!

So, let's see. What else. I got everything finished with my marriage and family therapist license and all my paperwork has been mailed off. I can only hope that everything goes smoothly and that the process can be completed in record time. I am ready to get my part of my life back on track!

The move to my parent's place has been going relatively well. I am not finished, but I am close to being done. I have been going through a great deal of items and deciding what I want, what I want to possibly sell, and what I want to give away. So, once I have everything grouped, I might make some posts on here about items that I would like to give away and see if any of you are interested. I might do it that way. I'm not completely sure yet. I'm just working hard at getting rid of some stuff!

I'm also working on a really fun project. It is nearly over with, at least my part, and I will soon be sharing some more details in the next few months. This is something really fun and really exciting! I can't wait to share it with you all.

So I wanted to also give a big thank you to someone that recently cheered me up. Brian from Pop! Pop! It's Trash Culture is one of the coolest guys I have gotten to know from the wonderful dorky blogging community. He is super funny and has a very kind heart. He is one of my imaginary friends in my mind. Like, I know we know each other online, but we don't live near each other in real life so I imagine that he is a friend in my head. I think that way about all of you. I know how that sounds, but as I was telling my other friend Cal recently, I have this fun fantasy where I have toy versions of all of you and I create the most epic story line ever! It involves all kinds of mayhem and world traveling adventures! One day this will happen, one day!

Anyways, so in December Brian sent over a very nice holiday care package and I have been meaning to post about the things he sent to me! I was so surprised and grateful that he wanted to do this for me. So let's see!

Starting things out from the beginning, he wrote me a note on a Batgirl postcard! I adore this! Of course, while opening the box I kinda cut the card with my mini hot pink box cutter. It still looks good though! I just don't know how to open boxes. Another thing I suck at in life. Just kidding. I don't think you can suck at life if you have a Crystal Castle. It's just like a law of physics or something. Right?

The man knows I have a soft spot for R.L. Stine. I have never read this book, but it seems like a great read full of chills during a season of thrills. Once I have the time, I am totally reading this. The cover looks creepy and it's R.L. Stine. You can't go wrong with that winning combination.

Look! It's my boyfriend on a keychain! I love love love this Michelangelo keychain. It looks so cool and will be a part of my keys. There is also another Garbage Pail Kids pin. These are very cute and this one is a great addition to the other GPK buttons that Brian sent when I won a Halloween pack set this past October.

Some other things that were in the box of wonders were these guys! Mario mini figures and Dino on a skateboard! I love the detail on the Mario mini figures. They look perfect. I've never owned a Bowser before so it is nice to have one to cause some mischief for my other Mario characters. The winged Goomba is just the cutest thing ever. And it's Lakitu! Freakin Lakitu! Can I just say, Lakitu is one of those characters that just strikes fear down my spine. Seriously, anytime I play a Mario game and the level involves that blasted Lakitu, my heart races and my palms get real sweaty. Grody, I know. The little Dino is a cute cereal premium and it reminds me of how much I used to love the Flintstones. I wish there would be a popular comeback of everyone's favorite prehistoric family.

Up next we have some cool zombie items! One can never have enough zombie items. The two zombies on the right are from the blind bag Walking Dead minifigures by Funko. Seriously, Funko needs to be responsible for making everything in some form or another. I adore Funko and you should too! To the far left is a super splendid item that I can't even begin to express my excitement over! The Zombie Monster from the Real Ghostbusters toy line! I adored the Real Ghostbusters line by Kenner. There was always something fun about this line. The action feature for this zombie are that his eyes move and his arms fly up while the top of his head pops up with the movement of his leg. I just love this!

Finally we have something super cool. A Battle Cat plush!!! This is the coolest thing and it will be totally going on my bed, wherever that may be. I've sort of returned to my old room at my parent's house, but I might be moving up to the loft. I don't know yet. Either way this amazing plush will be on my bed. I do realize that as a grown woman of 31, and pushing close to 32, a Battle Cat plush will probably scare away any man from wanting to even look at me, but that's ok. The Battle Cat plush is going to stay! Now they just need to make some She-Ra plushes. I'd totally flip for a Kowl plush. Although, I am still hoping for a Stinkor plush. Sans the stink.

Anyways, I can't thank Brian enough. (Thank you my fellow dorky friend!) He is a really nice guy and I enjoy reading his blog. Be sure to check it out: It's Trash Culture is a fabulous place to look around.

So I am done for now. I have some fun things coming up for the month of January still, so don't go too far! I hope you are all doing well!

  1. I would think that having a Battle Cat plush on your bed would simply be a good judge of character. If some dude stops by to visit and calls out Battle Cat by name and possibly even picks him up and makes him talk (even in the Cringer voice) that's a good sign. Heck, before we even started dating I was impressed that my wife had written an article about the Silmarillion.

And I'm really jealous of that Batgirl postcard! I'd love to track one down myself for my Batgirl collection!

    1. I think so too Barbecue! A Battle Cat plush on my bed should be the perfect judge of character! That is also cool that your wife had written an article about the Silmarillion! She sounds like a total keeper! I love hearing people talk about things like that.

The Batgirl postcard is simply amazing. I love it.

  3. Well, we the commenters love knowing that we can bring such joy to your life in such a small way. Its also very gracious of you to return the messages in kind. Your thoughtful replies are always worth the wait!

Ah, family therapy. Theres been a running joke in our house were Dad says anytime we perceive an injustice in their parenting, write it down and we'll hash it all out in family therapy sometime in the future. Personally, I think that sounds too time consuming. I'd much rather present the list of ways I've been wronged and just receive a life supply of feel-good drugs for my troubles.

A pink box cutter? Why am I not surprised.

Brian's a cool guy alright. Former Goodwill Geek ,now going by the name "Random Guy", just posted on his blog yesterday about a care package he received as well. Plus the inclusion an RL Stine horror novel amidst a predominantly pink website reminds me yet again why I like the cut of your jib.

Its fun to think of you as a friend from afar too. Having toy versions of ourselves in your little universe actually sounds kind of fun. Maybe that could be a League of Extraordinary Bloggers topic: What toy are you? Obviously you've got your Littlest Pet Shoppe Toy Miss M, Cal has his custom made Steampunk Kal plush doll, but what would I be? hm. Thats a tricky one. I'll get back to you on that later.

    1. Well I am glad you like leaving comments! I always enjoy reading them. And replying. Eventually. lolI used to not be so bad about taking forever with replying, but I am working on that.

Your dad sounds hilarious. My family was actually slightly unsettled when I told them I was going to become a family therapist. I always joke though that I'm one of the good ones. Therapy can get a bad rap from time to time. Lord knows, I've met some terrible therapists in my day.

I actually have a whole pink tool box kit thing. My friend gave it to me one year for Christmas or my birthday. I'm not what you would call a handy woman in any sense of the word, but splatter some pink on it and I'm a total sucker.

I adore Brian. He is really such a nice guy. And I do think it is fun to have toy versions of everyone. You will have to let me know what toy version you are, chance are I have one in my collection. I just like the idea of telling a story involving everyone. it has a cross over appeal to it, and I love cross overs. And yes, though I may love pink, I can certainly get down with some R.L. Stine. lol I hope you are doing well!

    2. Hey, things it busy, I get it, no worries. It just means its all the more of a welcome surprise when you do write back!

Dad still is a pretty witty fellow. As an English major I'm sure he's had a fair share of Mark Twain influence his sense of humor.

The whole issue of "which toy are you" reminds me of a Facebook tag photo I did one summer in college, were not only I did I tag my friends as comic book superheroes, but I also explained why. Ex:

Erin as Wonder Woman: Kind, Compassionate, ready to take a cause for anyone who needs her, whether its leading a march or just being a shoulder to cry on.

Caleb as The Human Torch: Fast paced, energetic, burns with passion.

Michael as Spider-Man: Ready to take on any obstacles with a sense of wit and humor.

Rachel as Invisible Woman: Working behind the scenes to get things ready for everyone else, and but never in sight to take credit for it.

      *sigh* I miss those guys.

Basically, I'm trying to think of what personally our compatriots might match rather than simply in appearance.

Gracie used to say I looked a lot like David Tennant from "Doctor Who". I had the dark hair parted to the side, geek glasses, frequently wore a blue pinstriped collared shirt and was rocking some pretty serious seventies sideburns at the time.

So yeah, that might be my choice... for now.

  5. Well, I hope that I'm more than just a friend in your head.

Although, with your wild and awesome imagination, I wouldn't be too surprised if I ended up being a figment afer all.

Really, though, thank you for all the kind words. You know that I absolutely adore everything that you do; all your fantastic creativity and positivity. It's something to aspire to. And I feel truly lucky to have connected with you and others in this wonderful blogging community. Easily the best part of starting my own trash-y lil' blog.

    1. Wouldn't that be a trip, if you were just a figment? I hope not! And you are of course more than just a friend in my head. But in my head I like to imagine that you actually live just down the street and that we hang out all the time, even though in reality we are friends from far away places. (though I hear that whole teleportation mutation should be kicking in at any minute...)

And you are welcome for the kind words! I mean them. I always have the greatest time check in on you and everyone and we just like so many of the same cool things, how could I possibly not enjoy that? And yes, this is a really wonderful blogging community and I am thrilled to be a part of it! (and thrilled that you are too!)

  8. Pfft! I'm a guy pushing a few more years than you and I have a couple of plush things in my computer room. Granted one is a Creature from the Black Lagoon-ish looking thing and the other is Sam from Trick R Treat...

Plus, always be you. My wife always teases me because I told her that listing Star Wars in her online dating profile was one of the big reasons I contacted her in the first place. If you can find someone from the start that shares a geeky interest, it's a huge thing you don't have to worry about :D

    1. Well I am glad to hear that you have some plush things in your possession! I have many more than I care to admit, but the Battle Cat totally needs to be on my bed. I mean, that is just the coolest thing ever.

And thanks for this comment. I like reading about how other geeky people have found love. It's inspiring and endearing. And it gives me hope! Take care!

  9. glad to know things are looking to be back on track for you miss m. and that battle cat plush is cute. you now really need to ask brian to try and find a swift wind one or a panthor one. though a cuter motu plush would be skelator. and love that we are all friends in your head bit. cool to know that .

  10. Actually if I was dating a girl and she had a Battle Cat plush toy on her bed I think my heart would explode.
I thought women with Masters of the Universe toys who did not in anyway resemble Grizzlor did not exist in this reality, but you Miss M have proven me wrong! (although I'm not entirely sure that you exist in this reality, you seem more like a trans-dimensional pixie or something. But still, you don't look like Grizzlor and that is the important thing.)
And I too have many, many plush toys and I'm a guy! See when a girl has them it's cute, but when a guy has a stuffed manatee in his room suddenly he's "weird"! It's such an annoying double standard! I also have a Wile E. Coyote from when I was a kid, a Star Bellied Sneech, the Fat Fish from "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" (Who I think might also be a manatee technically) , a Creature from the Black Lagoon Plush like the guy above me said he had, and every single Hanna Barbera plush that Dairy Queen used to sell-oh and about five Panda's, one in a sailor suit that I put together at Build-A-Bear. But those are in my room at my mom's house. At my apartment I only just have a Vlassic Pickle Stork that I got at Goodwill in Freshmen year. I had in my Freshmen dorm room so I thought it was appropriate to be there in my final year of school.
