Today is Pope Day!

Ok so I don't even know where to begin with this strange day. First off let me just say, I know religion is a very touchy subject for certain folks. I was raised a Catholic, but as I have grown older my thoughts and views on religion have changed. I will leave it at that, because this post is not meant to be an excursion into my views on religion and what-not.

Instead, I found myself stumped to hear that the Pope was like giving up his job. I mean who does that? He wears custom made shoes by Prada and had a wardrobe of real fancy robes. I would love nothing more than to have a job where I am styled to wear comfy robes and shoes made by Prada. All kidding aside, I had no real reason to have this bit of news change up my day. There were bigger things I needed to deal with, like work. However, I did get a strange laugh at how things would unfold.

So I had a nice coupon from Big Lots that I planned on using on my way home from work. Big Lots is a fun store because you can always find hidden treasures in the toy aisle for cheap-cheap prices. I mean it is crazy at the things that can be found in a Big Lots toy aisle, to say nothing of their DVD section. Side note, I once found two seasons of Dynasty and a season of Melrose Place for 10 bucks each. Soapy prime time dramas for cheap-cheap? Yes please!

Anyways, I was perusing the toy aisle looking for a little something fun, when low and behold I stumbled upon two Random Acts of Odd Toy Making that I could not pass up!

I mean what are the odds that the Pope steps down from his job of doing whatever it is that the Pope does, and I find a Cars 2 Pope Pinion and Popemobile for $3.00 each? I purchased them quickly with my coupon. I'm either going to be burning in Hell for eternity or the universe has a really good sense of humor.

So you must be asking yourself, why on Etheria would a not-so-religious person want these Pope items? My answer is simple: why not? I love collecting strange things. In what life would it ever make sense for a toy line to make a Pope car? With hat and eyes? (I only wish this Pope Pinion had Prada wheels.) I realize this character was in the movie, but it is still just so strange to me. I don't think kids are hankerin' for a Cars 2 Popemobile. Are they? What makes this even better is that I had seen this car at a grocery store months ago, but it was so incredibly expensive. With my coupon I got this strange piece-of-toy for a couple bucks. I just think this is so funny. What are the odds? The Pope becomes an ex-Pope and I find cheap Pope toys at Big Lots. This will go perfectly well with the Playmobil Nun I found at a Tuesday Morning a couple years ago.

Does anyone else do that? I mean I don't base my entire collection off of random items, but every now and then I think it is so much fun to find things that are just unusual. Anyways, I am off. Tomorrow is an all new Toy Chest Tuesday and I have some fun plans for what will be appearing. Take care everyone!

  1. Well there are certainly a lot of people that would agree with you on that one.

  2. Sometimes I will buy random toys because I find humor in them or normally just to see if it would be something I might enjoy collecting. Also me and my wife shop Big Lots too.

  3. They put out the POPEMOBILE? What do you do with those if you don't have a six inch Pope action figure...with Holy Beatdown Armor for them to drive in? Those were a great choice. Now I find I need them in my collection and I don't even collect cars.

    1. I don't even collect car toys either Kal, but this just seemed like something a person must own. I mean just the randomness of it all. I mean the Pope car goes in the Popemobile! For what purpose, I will never know! I think I need to watch Cars 2 to understand more.

  4. Totally weird and completely hilarious. The playmobil nun from the tuesday morning is great also. I love Big Lots. I love their toys and their DVDs. My wife and I got this weird anime-ish Elvish bard jigsaw puzzle there last year - it was extremely difficult to put together! We had it together for like 5 minutes and then one of the cats destroyed it. I guess cats don't care for anime-ish Elvish bards. Silly cats. I'm with the Drunken Wizard guy. F the Pope, and his ridiculous hat.

    1. OMG! I love that everyone loves Big Lots! If we all lived near each other we'd have to all make a massive trip to Big Lots for all kinds of good stuff! I love their dvds. I recently bought Superman 4: Quest for Peace there for 3 dollars. I passed up Slums of Beverly Hills though, and I am still kicking myself on that one. But the Elvish bard jigsaw puzzle sounds cool! When I first read that my eyes played tricks on me and I thought it was Elvis. lol I was like an Elvis bard puzzle sounds interesting! lol I can't read.

  5. I was raised Catholic too! I hated PSR class though so I never got confirmed.
Did you end up getting married in the Catholic Church?
As for Cars I could never get passed the fact that Larry the Cable Guy was in it so I never watched either of those movies. But I can't believe they did a pope mobile! I know Steve Purcell-the guy who designed Sam and Max Freelance Police- was involved with some of the character designs -maybe he tried to slip some weird stuff in-
putting it in the movie is one thing, but making a toy of it? That is hard to believe. Well, I guess if you can make a show like "the Flying Nun" anything is possible.

    1. I never got confirmed either and we didn't get married in a Catholic Church. I have not really been the church going type in my adult life. I mean I have my beliefs, but I tend to just keep them to myself.

I saw the first Cars movie, but I never saw the second one, so I don't really know what the story is with the Pope car. But it just seems like a strange toy to make, and you are right, it makes anything possible.
