And then the Dorkette spoke...

...and I can only hope that you are not all running for the hills.

Ok everyone the time has finally come! As some of you may know, I was invited to be a guest on the Nerd Lunch podcast. This is the 121st episode of the podcast and it is finally up for your listening pleasure! Here is the link to the actual site- 121st episode of Nerd Lunch.

Or you can also listen right here:

But I highly suggest listening to both. There is a really fun picture on the Nerd Lunch link that teases just a glimpse of the fun on the podcast and it is everything! A big thanks again to CT, Pax, and CW. I had a blast on this podcast and I hope that everyone is doing well!

  2. It was a bit off putting imagining your voice being something like Toy Miss M's would be, soft and sing-songy, while Real Miss M is much lower. Of course, everything clicked into place the moment you said "Hot Mess". Yup, thats our Miss M alright.

I was never really into the whole fan fiction scene, so I surprised how easily accessible this discussion was and I was completely caught off guard be the author reveal at the end. (Though the She-Ra fic should have been a dead give away)

Your idea of a Bond Girl Avengers team sounded awesome! Closest thing I can think of is Ed Brubaker's new comic "Velvet" which is being pitched as "What if Moneypenny was a spy?" but even that is has just a sliver of the potential you've got with this idea. Already I'm brainstorming who would be on this dream team.

    1. Yeah my voice is not sing songy, it is more on the raspy low side. Not always though. When I'm tired and/or nervous my voice is not as animated as it normally is. I have a really good villainess voice. lol

Fanfiction is really hit or miss for me. There are times where I really like reading fanfiction and then there are times where I have read some... interesting... fanfic. I think it all depends on the writer.

I am soo wanting a graphic novel or series with the Bond Girls. I have characters already in mind and certain story ideas. I just think it would be the coolest thing ever. I also have a dreamy story line where James Bond actually ends up getting saved by a Bond Girl spy or something. I have always liked the idea and really wanted to see something come out of it.

Thanks for listening though Erik! I am really glad you did. I hope you are ding well.

    2. It really can be difficult sometimes on account that its often a different medium from its based on so there are big differences in format, tone and content that can be rather jarring. Nowadays if I read any fan fiction at all, it'll be something listed on TV Tropes' "Fanfiction Recommendations" page, as they at least give brief reviews of the writing style to let you know what kind of story you're in for.

Already, I'm dreaming up who would be on this Bond Girl team. (This would be a good Nerd Lunch question actually) I figure Pussy Galore is a shoe in on account of her piloting skills (a very distinct skill that puts her head and shoulders above some of the other candidates) plus Tracy because Bond actually put a ring on that (It'd be easy to say she wasn't dead, just in a coma) However, it's been a long while since I've seen OHMSS so I'm probably thinking of her more in a Diana Rigg as Emma Peel kind of sense. Who would you choose?

    3. Yes I know what you mean, it can be difficult. I find that the fanfiction that is good usually involves the writer having a passion for the property. At least I feel like that helps. I like writing fanfic, but I know I would not go out on a limb and write for things I don't know much about, unless it was something turned into a humorous mess.

As for my dream team on the Bond Girl story, I think Solitaire from Live and Let Die would be a fun character. She could use her powers with the Tarot cards to help the team find out answers to cases or villains. I think May Day would make for a great villain. Halle berry's Jinx would be one of the main characters. I would need to go back to what I wrote in a previous article about my choices. I just think it would be a really fun idea.

  3. Thanks for joining us!

Erik, I'm glad you liked it! This was a show that was months in the making due to the big twist. I'm glad it paid off!

    1. Hey, I'm glad I did too! Been busy lately so its been kind of on again off again with a number of podcast so I'm glad I caught this one at least.

Glad to see all that effort pay off, and I may just have to read some of these fanfics now!

Got to admit I'm a bit envious of this outlet to squeeze out the Nerd Juice over the air. If you're ever doing an episode down the line dealing with classic films, comic artists or contemporary cartoons... you may want to consider looking me up.

  4. I listened to this podcast on my bus-ride home today and like Erik I was completely shocked by Miss M's voice! Not in a "Oh my God is that BARRY WHITE???" kind of way... but in a "Wow, Miss M sorta sounds like Jessica Rabbit..." kind of way... ;) I always love hearing the voices of people whose voices I've only heard in my head before.

I thought the entire episode was a HOOT and I was completely taken in by the twist reveal at the end although I thought it was REALLY weird that everybody liked all of the Fan-Fic so much, considering I've heard some of these pod-casts before.

You were a natural to the podcasting medium, very charming, very natural, and I wanted to hear more! I even got a little defensive in your honor when CW said no one but "Sadcakes" should be allowed to write the She-Ra novelizations... but of course it all made sense by the end. I was just a little slow on the uptake.

Congrats on the podcast guest-spot Michael! I am so excited for you!

    1. Thank you so much Derek! I don't think I have ever had someone refer to my voice in the same sentence with Jessica Rabbit. But I will totally take it! lol

The episode was a lot of fun. Literally the Sad Cakes thing was created on the spot, because I had used my Diary of a Dorkette name for the fanfic, and that was going to give everything away! lol Sadcakes came from my looking around the kitchen for an easy name and i saw a King Cake on the island that was not even close to being eaten, and that just seemed sad to me. lol

Thank you for the compliments, and when CW said what he did about the She-Ra fanfic I wrote, it was just one of the nicest things I think someone could say. It was very nice and he is such a wonderful person.

Thanks again for the comment Derek. It means a lot. I hope you are doing really well!

  5. I didn't get a chance to finish listening due to a technical snafu, but I think you did a great job. You certainly didn't sound or seem nervous to me.

The whole podcasting thing sounds like fun actually. I'm hoping I'll get to take part in it one day.

  6. OH MY GOD! I have only listened to like two seconds of this so far, but you sound SO fucking mature!! This is crazy! You sound like a teacher! I will listen to the rest and give you my full review but, yeah, your voice sounds nothing at all like what I thought it would! It's a sexy low toned womany voice, not a girly voice, and it's amazing, but I thought it would be like a high pitched cutesy southern accent cute Texan thing. this is nuts! OMG! Now I gotta listen to the rest! I'll get back to you after that.

    1. lol!!! I am laughing so much at this right now. I don't think I have ever had anyone say that before. But, like I have said, I am an old broad. So it would make sense that I have a more mature sound to me. lol Although when I get really excited or happy about something, I do tend to have a different style in my voice. lol

    2. Well, if I was in Texas, I would do anything and everything in my power to make you make that exited happy voice!! Haha! Sad we are so far apart. But I suppose that is the way the world works for the likes of us. And you are not an old broad! I will be turning 31,your damn age, this month, so if you are an old broad, then I am a dirty old man, and I refuse to believe that about myself!! I may be dirty, and I may be a man,but I am in no way old! Mick Jagger is old, not Nick Moose! Haven't you heard? 71 is the new 31!

  7. OK, I listened to the rest, my only real complaint is that there is not more of you in it. You should have your own podcast show!
