Toy Dreams

Sweet dreams are made of these: plastic toys and lovely packaging presented on a never ending toy shelf of surprises. Does anyone else ever have dreams where they are in a toy store and all of a sudden they find some new toy line on shelves that they never in a million years would have expected to see? The kind of release where you're like, "I didn't know they were making these!" Or you have that dream where you are in the toy store and like a whole set of vintage items from decades ago are in a clearance bin and you're like, "Holy cow! Someone looked these over! I have to purchase them now before they are gone!" And then you wake up and the reality that it was all just a dream soberly hits you. Those dreams are like double edged swords, and the fact that I love, and am typing, about them is just... well... I don't really know what to think of it.

Last night I had this dream that I was in a Toysrus that looked more like a warehouse mixed with a comic convention than the regular toy store. There were crowds of people everywhere and it was just madness. So all of a sudden I stumble upon this wall with all new Strawberry Shortcake product. It was really good stuff, like Hasbro had finally corrected the error of their ways and actually released an updated Sour Grapes doll as well as an all new mini-figure pvc style Strawberry Shortcake line to rival all things mini-figure right now. I went nuts. I was scooping up all the Sour Grapes stuff I could find.

The dream then shifted because I noticed my Sour Grapes doll had funky eyes that looked off. So I swung back to the wall to see if there was a better Sour Grapes, and somehow a couple that looked like relatives to Honey Boo Boo had taken all the Strawberry Shortcake items. I had pleaded with the woman to just let me switch my Sour Grapes for one with better eyes, but she looked at me like I was an idiot. They laughed at me and walked off mumbling about the killing they were going to make on eBay.

After that had occurred I turned to see a Toysrus employee unloading a box of new mysterious arrivals. I went over and nearly died, they were newly designed and packaged SilverHawks figures! I went nuts. Steelheart was my first get, and I made sure I had one with nice paint apps. The blue vac metal was all fresh and new. The packaging was divine and the figures themselves looked to be at the same height as a Masters of the Universe Classics figure. It was like this perfect toy shopping experience. Until I woke up and realized that Hasbro will probably never release another Sour Grapes again and the days of seeing any SilverHawks items on shelves ended long ago. But one can hope, right?

Does anyone else have toy dreams? I really hope I'm not the only one. I tend to have a few once a week. I have this recurring one in which I walk into a Walgreens and they have the perfect Mortal Kombat figures featuring awesome looking Kitanas, Mileenas, and Sindels. In this dream I am always walking to the Walgreens after picking up a bag of delight from McDonalds. Heaven help me.

Anyways, I hope you are all doing well. I am off, but I did want to let you all know about some changes. Tomorrow is usually reserved for an all new Toy Chest Tuesday, but since there are some items that need to be posted in January, I will be forgoing a Toy Chest in favor of an all new fun feature! (Toy Chest Tuesday will resume next week.) So take care everyone, and sweet dreams!

  1. I have them sometimes but most of the time my dreams are like 70s action and horror movies I kid you not.

    1. lol Well that sounds fun! Well, I don't know about the horror part. When I dream like it is in a horror movie, I am usually in the role of running scared for my life. lol But that is cool about how you dream.

  2. I've had dreams about toys. Usually they involve going someplace new and for some reason they are selling vintage toys like a thrift shop.

    1. I know! I keep hoping for the same thing. I know right now SS is exclusive to TRU, but they haven't really released anything new except for two single figures of Strawberry Shortcake and another one, but i don't recall the name. There is nothing really new new though.

  4. I have mentioned it before but I have a deep and unexplained love for the Oscar Goldman 12 inch action figure from the TV show Six Million Dollar Man. He looks just like the actor who played him (rare for the time) and of course, his famous exploding briefcase. Plus he wears a plaid jacket with a turtleneck. That is some sweet 70s fashion right there.

  6. I have these dreams, but I usually forget what toy they were specifically about shortly after I wake up.
More tragically, I have dreams where a girl I am in love with confesses to me that she loves me, and we either go out or we are headed in that general direction, and everything is good in the world -and then I wake up, and it's that slow realization that really sucks. Like, at first you realize that you have just woken up, but you don't make the connection that what happened was a dream, and then-it starts to dawn on you that none of that happened. THAT is a shitty wake up call.

    1. Yeah I've had dreams like that. They really suck. I also hate the ones when something bad happens in real life and you go to sleep and everything is wonderful. The dreams are all fantastic, and then you wake up and there is that moment (like you described) where dreams and reality just aren't clear. Dreams are funny.
