With love to you all!

Hey everyone. It has been a few weeks. So I thought we could take a break from all the toy stories and do a little catching up. I have a lot of things to discuss. So click the link and let's dish!

Before I get into everything, I wanted to start off by sharing a big thanks to you all. Each month and year that goes by on this blog I get to know and meet people that share comments and emails as well as messages on Facebook and Twitter. I know sometimes I get a bit behind on replying to the comments, but I eventually get to them. I promise! It means the world to me that I am able to connect with so many people that share a love for all these dorky pop culture items. The thing is this, regardless if I had this Diary or not, I'd still be in my room playing with my toys. I'm a grown ass chick and I've been playing with my toys my whole life. Nothing is going to ever change that, but this added piece where I share it with everyone and we talk and laugh about our memories, it's truly amazing. I am constantly learning and hearing new things about toys that I instantly want to have on my shelf. I've wanted nothing more than to have people in my life that get the whole collecting thing and embrace it, so to have those experiences and conversations now, it is a great thing. So I thank you all.

I was recently asked about those Vegas posts from a friend who wanted to know about what all went into that piece. The last post I did involving that toy trip to Las Vegas took a lot out of me. I had to come up with the story and make sense of all the back and forth and in between of the plot points. I really wanted to create some twists and turns with a story that was a mix of linear and non-linear elements. Once my outline was complete, I typed it up in a rough (and I mean rough) draft. Next was a written outline for the types of photos I would need to tell the story, followed by a long photo session where I captured an enormous amount of photos that had to then be edited and trimmed down. By the by the photo process is always so much fun. I love getting everything set up and just picking every toy, accessory, and set out. I have so many toys to use and I just know it is something that everyone will enjoy. At least I hope so.

Once the pictures were good to go I then inserted them in the correct spots in the story. Afterwards I went through the edits while also adding in new lines. After hours of back and forth with the edits, I was all set to hit publish when my Google Chrome connection failed. I gasped for a moment but all was well because I just knew that the auto save feature was kicking in the whole time and that I'd just need to go back and press publish again. Only the auto save function had not worked at all and I had to start over with editing, inserting photos, and more editing. I wanted to scream. I had added in so many wonderful new things that were not a part of that original rough draft and I had done my best to add them in again. After around 30 hours of work on this post from beginning to end, I can only hope I had put everything in it. The finished product was good enough for me and I hope that you all enjoyed it too.

So here we are. I am on a little break from posting major things as I have needed to regroup some and gear up for the next set of toy stories that will leave you in stitches! However, I wanted to share some things with you all that are coming up:

1. Diary of a Dorkette is close to reaching its 500th post. As a result I am wanting to do something super fun so be on the look out for those details.

2. I am working on the details for a "Date a Dorkette" feature that will involve anyone who is interested creating scenarios that have toy Miss M going on dates with a twist.

3. My dear friend David and I are working on an all new original toy story that will be a splashy soap opera that is a metaphor for world history. It will involve Barbie dolls and will be both messy and educational.

4. Troma films have long had a place in my heart and I have finally gotten the inspiration to write up a lovely tribute to some Troma Films that will also include some of your favorite Toxic toys. What I have in store for this tribute is hopefully going to be epic and incredibly hilarious. I am hoping to have that up sometime in April.

So that's about it for some big things I have in store for this lil Diary. I will continue to post as much as I possibly can while also entertaining you all. I can't thank you all enough for the support and encouragement you have all given me. I love having this outlet, it has gotten me through so much. I hope that you are all doing well. Keep it here! There's more fun to come.

Hearts and smiles,
M

  2. 500?! Wow. Thats quite the milestone! I had no idea!

I also didn't know you were such a big Troma fan! The original Toxic Avenger is the only one I've seen. I started "Tromeo and Juliet" but made the mistake of starting it at one in the morning and well asleep about fifteen to twenty minutes in.

    1. I know! 500 posts! I can't believe I've had that much to write about. lol

I do like Troma a lot. My first Troma film was Bloodsucking Freaks. It's from the 70's and it is just awful in the best way. I've also seen Cannibal the Musical, Toxic Avengers, Class of Nukem High. I have seen a few. I am not sure if I have seen Tromeo and Juliet, but I will need to check it out. I know I have heard about it. I am hoping this tribute will be fantastic! Thanks for being such a great friend Erik.

    2. Troma's brand of schlock/exploitation movies have really become a narrow niche nowadays and could probably serve as a poster child for "acquired taste". I'll be very interested in learning more about it from you.

Hey, it's been great being your friend too!

    1. Thank you demoncat! I have so many fun plans for Toxi and the other toys. I might not be able to get to them all because I have had a hard time collecting them all, but most of those toys are going to factor in to the toy tribute. And thank you so much for always commenting and having nice and thoughtful observations about what you read. You are the best!

  9. Interesting insight into all the effort that goes into these posts! I know it's gotta be hard work, and I am glad you know how much we all really and truly appreciate it! Much like our obsessions with toys and old cartoon take us away, give us an escape from the crappy real world, so does Diary of a Dorkette!!
Glad to hear that the Date with a Dorkette feature is gonna happen, when it does, I hope to contribute something.
And I grew up with Troma! The USA airings of the Toxic Avenger movies were the first real examples of extreme gore I had ever seen!! They still stick with me! Plus, of course, I had the Toxic Crusaders toys and comics!
Keep on rockin in the toy world!
    -luv,
    Nick

    1. Hey Nick! Well I am glad you enjoy this lil spot. I love getting to communicate with you. It's always nice. I knew you'd also get a kick out of the Troma stuff. I have so many fun plans for the Troma tribute. Troma films were a big part of my being a teen, so this piece I am working on is hopefully going to reflect that and more.

I hope you have been doing well! I'll talk to you more later!
