Diary of a Dorkette Turns 2!!!

Something must be special about July. Just the other day I was reading over at Goodwill Hunting 4 Geeks about all these blogs that started out in the month of July. And I am here to add one more to that list! Read on for a mini celebration for all things dork!

It was two years ago today that I made my first post on Diary of a Dorkette. My goodness I wasn't sure exactly what all I would be writing about, but I did know there were a few things I wanted to touch upon. First and foremost was my love for toys. I am far too old and should know better, but I will be collecting until the day I die. (Which, barring anymore attempts by the Masters of Evil, will be for a very long time to come.) I feel like I have made my little views about vintage toys much more informative and entertaining than when I first started. (There really was a lot of loving snark with that first Toy Chest Tuesday.) I also wanted to make sure I captured all my memories surrounding the things I have enjoyed collecting.

The second thing I wanted to do was to tell stories. A long, long time ago I had another blog for a few years and it contained nothing but crazy stories partly picked from my life and partly embellished just a bit. The Night of the Living Roach series was created on that old blog and I have been needing to really revisit those stories because they are fun and entertaining, and hopefully they will come back.

Other stories I wanted to tell involved all the conversations I tend to have with my collection. I have no idea if my toy interviews reek of desperation or if they are actually entertaining, but I do hope that they provide some laughter in people's lives. I'm also really pleased that I was able to start and finish my epic sized She-Ra fan fiction entitled Adora's Search for Honor. It was a labor of love and maybe I will go back and revisit that story too.

Finally one of the things I really wanted to accomplish was to, in part, find people to read my ramblings, but also to get the chance to communicate and know awesome dorky people from all over the world. I don't have many people in my real life that are collectors, or would appreciate the dedication to writing She-Ra fan fiction, or enjoy having a toy version of myself attend a make-believe Conference of Evil.

So in this second year of Diary of a Dorkette, I am beyond thrilled at the people I have gotten to know through this blog. I don't know that I would have talked to any of you had I not started sharing my dorky experiences. I've continued to post for Nerd Society which has been a fantastic experience to expand upon my writing skills. I thank you Paladin for inviting me well over a year ago. I also must thank the always wonderful Jay at The Sexy Armpit for designing me the totally cool Diary of a Dorkette banner at top! I am not the best tech savvy person around, so to have something special like that is just the coolest thing ever. (I certainly wouldn't have been able to make something like that myself.) I also want to thank Poe Ghostal for writing a brief little post about my reunion with my vintage Glimmer action doll in their Sightings section. I also must thank Brian over at Cool and Collected for emailing me about the League of Extraordinary Bloggers. I had seen those badges on other fabulous blogs, but I was always nervous to join. I don't know why, everyone is so kind and nice, but I am a very incredibly shy person. And I'm glad I joined, because I have greatly enjoyed participating in the weekly topics. I also have had fun joining the Nemesis Blog Collective with a similar weekly topic format. Those experiences have allowed me to read and learn about other really cool people!

Speaking of cool people, I must urge all of you to check out the links to the side. I have a list of very Cool Spots featuring some blogs and stuff that I like to visit and read. I always try to update that as much as possible, but there are times that I get behind on things. I love nothing more than checking up on what other people are writing about. I've learned so many cool things! And one day I am going to do a post on what I have learned and like from all these various blogs and sites I go to. I was thinking of doing it in this post, but that is an undertaking that will take me some time to do.

Before I forget, I also really want to thank the folks who agreed to participate in my Clip 'n Save Reader Files. I haven't done them in awhile, but I really enjoyed doing that and will hopefully try to bring them back. Sarah, Paladin, Milky Mixer, and Nate were all wonderful to participate and I love catching up with them. I hope to get that going up again.

The past two years have been a great deal of fun. I hope that I will have plenty more to write about. I'm not planning on slowing down, there are all kinds of fun things in store. I hope you are all doing well and having a nice day. A big thank you to everyone who has stopped by this blog for whatever reason. If your visit was to view a picture, to read a post, or to follow along and read more, I greatly appreciate all of it. I hope I have provided a space for you to enjoy.

Of course, Diary of a Dorkette turning 2 just can't be complete without a few well wishes from some folks who have appeared on here before! In keeping with last year's theme, I present to you some Dorky Snaps: Diary of a Dorkette Birthday Edition!

Congratulations Miss M! This is your old pal and mentor April O'Neil. I'm still in the hospital from that car wreck that should have happened to you, but I do have feelings in my legs now. I must say though, the Botox they serve in here is high grade and perfect. Just keep practicing your interview skills and maybe one day you'll get to wear a yellow jump suit like me. -April

You may not be able to fly or walk through walls. And you certainly can't read minds, but your work on Diary of a Dorkette has made the world a little bit safer for mutants everywhere.

A message from the Royal Family
Please read:
Dear Miss M,
It is with the utmost regard that the Royal Family of the House of Randor wishes you the best for your rambling on and on, and on, for two years with Diary of a Dorkette. If you ever feel the need to visit the Eternos Palace on Eternia, please know that you will be welcomed with open arms. And maybe a parade in your honor. Prince Adam has even asked that you take his side as the one day Queen of Eternia, barring any other romantic entanglements with Michelangelo, Optimus Prime, or Wolverine.

Signed,
The Royal Family

I tried popping out of a cake for you Miss M, but I figured this would do less damage! Congratulations on Diary of a Dorkette turning 2! I also appreciate the resource you gave me for anger management. You really are the best. -Wreck It Ralph

Bah! Why should I even say one nice word about that miserable little thorn in my side called Miss M?! I am evil. I never have anything nice to say. Miss M, your blog sucks.

In affectionate disgust,
Skeletor

Like I totally made this gnarly cake for you dorkette. Maybe you'll eat it with me on our date? I'm still waiting for your response. Listen dorkette, I'm one cool little dude. Please say you'll go out with me. Don't leave me hangin, I'm the party turtle! -Michelangelo

Disgusting! Why must I pose for a picture surrounded by cheap cakes? Listen Miss M, Diary of a Dorkette may be 2, but it has only managed to hold onto the three readers it has because of your silly gimmicks. Take it from one who knows about a gimmick, at some point you're going to spiral out of control and no toy on the planet is going to want to talk to you. You'll hit rock bottom and find yourself living under a bridge inside the huge box to the Masters of the Universe Classics Castle Grayskull. Then, and only then, will the Misfits possibly write a hit song about you. -Pizzazz

Miss M, I wanted to wish you nothing but the best on Diary of a Dorkette turning 2! I'd love to be there to help you celebrate, but I am currently in the future on the set of the Wonder Woman film! Yeah, this is big. Apparently we all have to wait until the year 2983, but the studio from the future reached out to me in the present and asked me to star in it. I hate that we are going to have to wait that long, but trust me Miss M, if you are able to make it, this movie is going to be worth it! Once I've wrapped up filming and return to the present, we'll go out for a girl's night. I'm thinking drinks with umbrellas? Let me know! All the best. -Wonder Woman

From all of your friends in the Great Rebellion, we want to thank you for two years of all out dorky fun! We can't wait to see what you write next.

With nothing but love,
She-Ra, Netossa, Frosta, and the Star Sisters.

P.S. The rest of the Great Rebellion couldn't be here to help you celebrate, but they have you in their thoughts. Bow says hi, but he went to the post office to wait for Castaspella.

P.P.S. Frosta keeps demanding to know when she will be featured as a Woman of Wonderosity.

Wow! Such nice words from some pretty nice toys!

Also, remember, you can find me rambling on twitter @DorketteTweets and Diary of a Dorkette has a Facebook page- Click here.

Thank you everyone. Enjoy, and keep it here! This week is going to be filled with fun and excitement in honor of Diary of a Dorkette turning 2!

  1. Congratulations Miss M!!! I'll be honest, your collecting habits sometimes trend towards the girlier spectrum (for obvious reasons!) but either way, you always manage to keep me interested anyway. I love reading your spin on things!

I don't think a single thing about this blog reeks of desperation. BUT IT DOES REEK OF AWESOME!!!

I hope you keep up this blogging thing for years to come!
