Diary of a Dorkette Turns Four!

Hey everybody! Diary of a Dorkette turns four today! Click the link to read more and check out what's new!

It's insane to me how much I've gotten to experience with this blog when I started it four years ago.

I had actually contemplated starting this blog four years ago. I sat on it for a few months, uncertain if I really wanted to write about stuff. I knew this much: I was lonely. I wanted to feel a connection with other like minded folks who collected toys or enjoyed reading comics and playing video games. I was tired of enjoying those topics all by myself. With a quick back and forth for what the title would be I soon picked 'Diary of a Dorkette.'

In these four years I've told a lot of toy stories and shared a lot of memories about my life and collection. I wasn't sure anyone would care or take the time to read. What ended up happening though was that I found myself the lucky gal who got to know people. People that shared similar interests while also introducing me to new interests. I have simply had the time of my life with getting to know all of you. If I hadn't started this blog none of that would have happened for me. I'd still be sitting in my Archival Room playing with my toys and trying to figure out if I wanted a Number 2 or Number 10 from the McDonald's menu for dinner. I mean, I'm still going to do those things, but I feel like I have found a community. We might all live in different places, but it's the conversations I have on here, email, Twitter, or other areas of social media that just makes my heart sing.

I even got to meet someone recently who I never thought I'd meet! Last year I was invited to be a guest on the Nerd Lunch podcast by CT. I was thrilled to have this experience. I also assumed it would be my only one. Well most of you know the story, after being a guest I eventually found myself on not one but two podcasts (Geek Fallout and Eclectic Mayhem) as a co-host where I get to talk and laugh with people who have genuinely become amazing friends. I am thankful to CT for that. Last week CT and his family were on vacation in Texas. While on their way home they made a quick stop to meet me for lunch where we had a real life Nerd Lunch. You can hear that podcast over at Nerd Lunch.

Here we are at the Spaghetti Western, a super fun restaurant that I love going to. It was such an honor and pleasure to meet CT and his family. They are all such kind people. It makes me wish I could find a way to meet all of you reading too. From the fine folks I podcast with on a regular basis, to the friends I've made from here, NERDSociety, Retro-Daze, Twitter, Instagram, I mean the list goes on and on. In my fantasy world we would all meet at an epic toy show or flea market where we'd be toy hunting and drinking Dr. Peppers. It would be amazing.

Oh, another thing! I was recently asked if some of my pictures I took for a Bodacious Baddie from February 2013 could be used by DR. SMOOV for a video he worked on with Realistikk involving a battle rap between Teela and Skeletor. Seeing my images in the video was such a hoot. You can view it right here:

I had intended to post a video of my own thanking you all for your kindness and friendship through these years, but I need to practice more on my video editing skills. It's kind of a mess. However stay tuned because I am going to be posting videos on YouTube involving conversation about the toys in my collection and sharing memories/experiences about what it is like to be a dorkette. I hope it will be something fun for you all to enjoy. At the very least you can play a drinking game every time I say 'like' or 'and' or 'umm.'

In the meantime here's some fun photos of me as Wonder Woman. I never dress up in a costume but I couldn't help it. It is so much fun to stay up late on a weekend, have a few sodas, and just dress up like one of my favorite super heroes. Though in this case, it was half Wonder Woman. I didn't have her boots so I was limited on the poses and pictures I could take.

This photo was given a Memories Refreshed treatment by Wes Grogan! Thank you Wes!
So thanks again guys and gals. I am so happy to have these experiences and many more from the past four years. I didn't know I'd get to experience all this, but I had hoped I would. I adore you guys. Don't go too far either! I've got some fun stuff planned. Nick Moose has contributed to the Date a Dorkette writing event and I'm taking the pictures for it so I'm hoping to post it soon. I also have a super soapy July Woman of Wonderosity that will leave you gasping! Take care everyone!

I would say let them eat cake, but soft serve is so much better, especially from a Turbo Cone.

Also I love that there's a restraint called Spaghetti Western. That sounds like a place I would eat at every day!

    1. I always dreaded birthday spankings. I remember when they would give us play spankings in elementary school, looking back at it now it just seems so creepy! Either way, I appreciate your comments and what you contributed for the Date a Dorkette story. It was a fun story.
